New Chicago Contemporary Series: latest work:
Biography
Born in Chicago, where her Dutch immigrant grandfather worked as a portrait painter, Lenore grew up in the Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky. At 21 she left Kentucky, going back to her Chicago roots to study art.
A year later she married Gordon De Pree, with whom she began a life of travel and adventure. Twenty years in Hong Kong, five years in New York and ten years in Saudi Arabia all provided cultural stimulation for her unique style. Returning to the US in 1990, she began to adapt Persian Art to painting NC landmarks and life in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
For sixteen years the De Prees lived in the mountain town of West Jefferson, NC where they operated a successful gallery and produced 65 designs in print depicting North Carolina life.
In January 2007 the De Prees moved back to Chicago (after a long world journey) and Lenore is settling into the contemporary art scene in this beautiful vibrant city. The new work for 2007 and into the future will be a series of Chicago contemporary paintings, which will seek to take the best of many cultural influences and meld them into a unique style - a style that emphasizes unity and simplicity.
