"Surely the Presence"
Drawn from the Biblical story of Jacob's Ladder, when Jacob awakes and says "Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place, and this is the gate of Heaven." The completed work is now a 12-foot Altar piece over the Communion Table in the Mount Jefferson Presbyterian Church of West Jefferson, NC.
The angels on Jacob's Ladder are actual portraits of 25 children of the Church.
Below are details of some of the faces and an overview of the first six feet of the painting from earlier in the process. The the pencil sketches are from the second six-foot section which is in progress.
