Something New!

For twenty years I have been painting the North Carolina mountain and town scenes that captured my attention as being worthy of celebration. Now, after spending almost two years in downtown Chicago, I have come back to this mountain area with a renewed and clarified vision. I would like to create YOUR favorite oil painting, the one you always wanted and couldn't find.

This is a service I am offering. It is not a regular commission, but an interactive process in which you will be involved at every step- photography, sketches and the final painting. At your invitation, I will come to your home and explore the possibilities with you.

  1. THE WALL where a painting would hang. Over a fireplace, above a dining table, over a couch. In your bedroom, kitchen, or even in a roomy bathroom.
  2. THE SIZE AND SHAPE OF THE WORK. A variety of sizes and shapes can be available, including tall and narrow, long and narrow, square and rectangular.
  3. THE BACKGROUND. Your favorite stand of trees, bend of the river, or view of the mountains- or in the case of contemporary designs, simply color.
  4. THE FIGURES. (OPTIONAL) Would you like to be in the painting? You as a couple, or your children, your pets, your dogs, cats, horses or cows. Your chickens or goats? Some favorite house or detail of architecture?
  5. THE COLORS. The pigments used in creating your oil painting will be mixed to complement your existing color scheme. If your colors are "eclectic" we will use colors pleasing to your taste. ranging from soft neutrals to brilliant colors.
  6. STYLE. Over the years, I have developed three distinctive styles- Soft realism, Persian "storybook art", and a more contemporary style. Within these main styles, colors can vary from soft blues and browns to vivid reds, blues, yellows and greens. Black and white is also an option. The group of selected designs under each style are paintings that I have done, but these are not for sale. They are a catalogue of ideas to help you make your style choice.

NOW, THE BIG QUESTION. HOW MUCH WILL THIS COST?

Not as much as you think. Because I am working out of my studio at home, costs are lower than when I maintained a gallery. There will be a scale, from very small simple paintings for as little as $500, to larger more complex paintings for several thousand. The price will be set by the amount of work (and skill!) needed to accomplish what you desire, and you will know before we begin if you are comfortable with the price. If you truly want this painting, I will do my best to make it affordable for you. This is an original work of art. There will never be prints or copies of it. This will be your family treasure.
